Copyright and content removal

Last updated

ClipToVocab helps people learn English from real videos. We respect the work of the people who make them. This page explains how videos are used in ClipToVocab, and how to have your content removed if you do not want it here.

How ClipToVocab uses videos

  • Videos play only in YouTube’s own embedded player, through YouTube API Services, under the YouTube Terms of Service. The player carries YouTube’s own branding and controls and links back to YouTube.
  • We do not host, copy or re-upload videos for people to watch, and we do not offer videos for download. If a video is removed from YouTube or its owner turns off embedding, it stops playing in ClipToVocab too.
  • We use videos for one purpose: language learning. Learners watch a video, look up the words in it and practise them.

Subtitles

Alongside the player, ClipToVocab shows the words being said, line by line, so learners can follow along and tap a word they do not know. Subtitles are shown only inside ClipToVocab, with the video they belong to, as a learning aid. They are not sold, published separately or offered for download.

Words, meanings and lessons

The videos and words in ClipToVocab are chosen by our team. The word meanings, explanations and lessons that go with them are curated by us, by hand, for learners. They are our own work, made to teach English, and they point learners back to the original video rather than replacing it.

If you want your content removed

If you own a video (or are authorised to act for its owner) and do not want it in ClipToVocab, write to us at copyright@cliptovocab.com. You do not need a legal reason: if it is your content and you would like it out, we will take it out.

Please include:

  1. Who you are: your full name, and your email address and phone number.
  2. Your content: the YouTube link of the video, or of your channel if you want all of it removed.
  3. That it is yours: for example, write from the email address shown on the channel, or tell us how we can confirm you own it or act for the owner.
  4. Where it is in ClipToVocab, if you know: a ClipToVocab link (such as cliptovocab.com/watch/…) or the video’s title.
  5. A statement that the information in your message is accurate and that you are the owner, or authorised to act for the owner.
  6. Your full name as your signature.

What we do

  • We acknowledge your message within 24 hours.
  • Within 36 hours of a complete request, we remove the video from ClipToVocab together with everything made from it: its subtitles, clips, shorts, and the lessons and saved items that use it.
  • If you asked us to, we also stop using the rest of your channel.
  • We write back to tell you it is done. Removed content is not added back unless you ask us to.

If something you posted in ClipToVocab (such as a comment or a Moment) was removed after a complaint and you believe that was a mistake, write to the same address and explain why. We will look at it again.

Sending a request you know to be false may break the law, so please only write about content that is yours or that you are authorised to act for.
